To have found God and still to pursue Him is the soul’s paradox of love.

About This Quote

To have found God and still to pursue Him is the soul’s paradox of love meaning that if you have found God, then why would you pursue Him with such intensity. This quote has been attributed to the philosopher, René Descartes who lived from 1596 to 1650. In his book, Discourse on the Method for Conducting One’s Reason Well and Orderly, He writes: “However we may reflect on the nature of God and His attributes, we cannot find it possible to conceive them without feeling some very great apprehension. We ought not, therefore, to attach great importance to any philosophical speculation which does not lead us to worship and love Him - and even through loving Him we shall never be able to know Him exactly as He is. We can only come close to His nature by loving Him."
